Radon
What is radon?

Radon is a radioactive gas that comes from the ground. It is formed when radium in soils and rocks, particularly granites, disintegrates. Radon goes up through cracks in the ground and into basements. It is heavier than air and it stays in the basement until it is blown out. Unfortunately most people do not ventilate their basement very well.

Radon's health effects

Radon is dangerous because it releases radiation and can cause cancer over a prolonged period of time.
