Objectives
The Hong Kong Lung Foundation has been established in Hong Kong since 12 March 1996. According to the Memorandum of Association, the objectives of the Foundation are:
  • To co-ordinate and correlate the efforts of organisation, companies, associations, societies, institutions, statutory bodies and other authorities and individuals interested in the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system with a view to reducing morbidity and mortality therefrom in Hong Kong.
  • To arrange for, promote, foster, develop and assist medical and allied profession in the study of and the acquisition, dissemination and application of knowledge and information concerning the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system.
  • In furtherance of the objects of the Foundation to encourage, stimulate and aid respiratory research and investigation into the causes and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system.
  • To stimulate public interest and provide public education in the prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system and related problems and to assist in keeping the medical profession in Hong Kong up to date in the latest developments in the field of medical and scientific research and methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system.
  • To encourage, assist and arrange for medical practitioners, allied health professionals, scientists, students and others to come to Hong Kong for the purposes of research and study and for the purposes of teaching and demonstrating theory and practice relating to the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system.
  • To encourage, assist and arrange for medical practitioners, allied health professionals, scientists, students and others to travel abroad to attend conferences and to engage in research, study and training in order to gain experience in modern methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system.
  • To grant scholarships, donations, subsidies and allowances and to provide assistance (financial or otherwise) to schools, tertiary institutions, educational establishments, students and persons pursuing studies for the advancement and promotion of health education and to recognize any person who has made significant contributions to the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system in Hong Kong.
  • To arrange or provide monetary assistance for and establish scholarships and make donations to students, medical practitioners, allied health professionals, scientists and other persons for the purposes of research and study or for the purposes of teaching and demonstrating their professional skill in and knowledge of methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases of the respiratory system.
  • To co-operate with other bodies or organizations both within Hong Kong and overseas having objects in whole or in part similar to the objects of the Foundation.
  • To establish, subsidise, promote, co-operate with, receive into union or affiliation, subscribe and donate to or become a member of, control, manage, superintend, lend or give monetary assistance to or otherwise aid associations, institutions and organisations incorporated or not incorporated and whether within Hong Kong or elsewhere having objects similar to the objects of the Foundation, and which shall prohibit the distribution of its or their income and property amongst its or their members.
  • To encourage, arrange for, promote, establish, support and manage special dispensary facilities, infirmaries, clinics, hospitals and institutions for the care, treatment, and convalescence of persons suffering from diseases of the respiratory system.
  • To promote, arrange for, foster, develop, establish and assist special facilities for the institutional care or rehabilitation of persons who are wholly or partially incapacitated in self-support on account of diseases of the respiratory system and to provide suitable vocational guidance and occupations for such persons.
Hong Kong Lung Foundation is a charitable body in Hong Kong devoted to the promotion of health and better understanding and care of diseases of the lung.
